CLI Reference

All commands run as forge <command>. CI-friendly: validate and test exit non-zero when they find errors.

forge init <name>

Scaffold a new skill. - --dir PATH — parent directory (default .) - --template basic|advanced - --description TEXT, --author TEXT, --tags TEXT, --example TEXT

forge validate [path]

Validate a SKILL.md (file or directory) against the spec. - --strict — treat warnings as errors - --links — also verify local Markdown links

forge test [path]

Offline structural tests: validation passes, examples exist, any declared entrypoint responds to --help, tests/*.yaml well-formed. - --live — reserved for future LLM evaluation

forge doctor

Diagnose detected clients, installed skills, and broken skills.

forge search <query>

Search the registry. - --tag TAG, --client CLIENT_ID

forge add <name> / forge install <name>

Install a skill into a client. - --client all|claude-code|cursor|codex|opencode|cline

forge list

List skills installed into each detected client.

forge publish [path]

  • --registry local|community
  • --dry-run — print the entry instead of writing

forge schema

Print the open-standard JSON Schema. - --out FILE — write it to a file
